# Catalog / visual-discovery variants — evidence note

## Scope and short plan

This slice adds two optional gallery studies without changing the Apple house default or the shared gallery registry.

1. Compare each library `DESIGN.md` with the current official homepage at desktop width.
2. Promote only repeated, visible structural patterns—not colors or brand marks alone.
3. Re-express those patterns with the existing 22-service dataset, then verify preservation, escaping, controls, and 1440/390 layout.

## Nike (`nike`)

### Sources

- Library analysis: `reference/design-md/design-md/nike/DESIGN.md`
- Current official page checked 2026-10-13: <https://www.nike.com/>

### Corroborated observations

- The official page exposes a retail navigation organized around Men, Women, Kids, Jordan, NikeSKIMS, Sport, and product search.
- The current homepage is a sequence of edge-to-edge campaign image cards with terse, high-impact headings such as “FULLY INVESTED,” followed by direct shopping actions.
- A dense “TRENDING” product/category index follows the campaign storytelling.
- These observations corroborate the library analysis' photography-first campaign tiles, extreme display contrast, neutral commerce chrome, pill actions, and product-card grid.

### Translation and limitations

- The study translates campaign billboard → category controls → three-column catalog. Filters and search operate on real service fields.
- Original service illustrations replace Nike photography; no Nike logo, product inventory, pricing, sale state, or athlete endorsement is reproduced.
- The type stack uses local system fallbacks because Nike's proprietary fonts are not bundled.

## Pinterest (`pinterest`)

### Sources

- Library analysis: `reference/design-md/design-md/pinterest/DESIGN.md`
- Current official page checked 2026-10-13: <https://www.pinterest.com/>

### Corroborated observations

- The logged-out official homepage was accessible without a login wall and showed global Explore/About/Businesses/Create navigation plus account actions.
- Its lead experience pairs a large editorial idea prompt with visual collections, followed by many idea groups and visual-search guidance.
- The page's load-bearing content is imagery arranged for browsing rather than a uniform rows/table workflow.
- These observations corroborate search-led visual discovery and collection-led browsing. The precise irregular masonry pin-grid treatment is taken from the pinned third-party analysis, not asserted to be the exact layout of the current logged-out homepage.

### Translation and limitations

- The study translates search-led chrome → category chips → variable-height masonry board. Search and chips operate on the real service title, description, and category.
- The masonry board is an analysis-derived adaptation; the current official homepage was used to corroborate the discovery/collection model, not a logged-in feed. No logged-in Pinterest product surface was verified.
- Original service illustrations replace user pins. No saves, follower counts, ratings, freshness, or engagement data is invented.
- The type stack uses local rounded/system fallbacks because Pin Sans is not bundled.

## Promotion decision

Both variants have a distinct information architecture corroborated by their current official pages, so `render("nike", services)` and `render("pinterest", services)` return studies. Unsupported names return `None`. Registry/generator integration remains deliberately outside this file's scope.
